Silicon is a semi-metal with properties of metals and non-metals that is not only used as a basic material in the electronics industry as an excellent semiconductor, but is also used in many other areas, e.g. as a basic material in silanes, polysilicon and in part in refractory materials, welding wires, in order to specifically change their properties.
Silicon is also becoming increasingly important in the battery industry because it can absorb significantly more lithium ions than other available anode active materials
